Cranberry Passionfruit Conditioner

Post by Xarata » Wed Dec 08, 2010 1:25 am

Ok, i already reviewed this on the website, but everyday that goes by, my hair gets softer and softer and i am more and more pleased with this product. I'm using it just as a conditioner -as opposed to a cleansing conditioner (i think i'm just one of those people that likes my shampoo to lather. lol. Also I use a really gentle all natural indie-brand shampoo), and I actually had a female colleague today reach out and touch my hair because it LOOKED so soft (and of course, feels soft and silky too). I've had really healthy hair for the last few years (when i stopped using mainstream haircare in favor of gentler natural indie haircare) but my hair is only this soft when i get a salon blowout.

And let me tell you- I am and have always been a diehard detangler girl for both my super long hair and my current midlength hair. When Aussie changed their formula and added that nasty peachy scent (my grandma used to have peach wall plug-ins in the 90s so imitation peach scent tends to make me think of old lady), I bought 6 bottles (1 bottle lasts about a year) of the old formula. This conditioner detangles my hair before i get out of the shower and I haven't needed a detangler all week.

fantastic stuff

Oh, good idea using it with a shampoo. I've been trying to give my hair time to get used to the oils not being washed out but I can't seem to go more than a day without it looking dirty/greasy. The day of looks and feels great though and it smells fantastic. People keep sniffing me.

Is it okay to buy more than one if it's for giving other people to try?

I have tried using other conditioners that others recommended for CO cleansing, but nothing really worked, within a week I had to shampoo my hair.

This one works :) The first time I used it, I couldn't believe how soft my hair felt, how nicely it fell. What I have to work on is getting the body back into it, but I take over straw hair any day. The first time I used it, the second day was a bit meh, but the consequent times gave me a nice second day hair and the third day was bearable if I put the right products in, especially dry shampoo.

I'm sticking it out to wait and see how it goes, but so far so good. And the scent! Oh, the scent, mmmmm :)

Samantha, what indie brand of shampoo do you use? I'm looking for a new one - I like to lather my hair up too :-)

I buy the 2-in-1 shampoo/body wash from ForYourNose.com, i have big bottles of it in both lavender and cinnamon stick (i love cinnamon stick scent and have not had any skin problems with this fragrance shampoo either even though it is cinnamon). I don't like that they don't list ingredients on their website, but seeing as i just so happen to have a bottle in my shower:

De-Ionized water, hampene NA2(detergent and preservative), plantaren APB(foaming agent), Aloe Vera Gel, Citric Acid, Sodium chloride, witch hazel extract, lavender extract, chamomile extract, aloe extract, sage extract, sesame seed oil, wheat germ oil, avocado oil, germaben IIE (natural preservative), fragrance

i can see some naturalists taking issue with the hampene NA2(which googling equates with disodium EDTA), but i love what this shampoo does for my hair and actually was at the point of no longer using conditioner it works that well for me. At least this way you have the ingredients list and can decide if it's something that works for you or not. They sell sample sizes. Of other brands, i've used and liked Kiss My Face and Burt's Bees

I have been a WEN girl for over a year, and I'm in love with this product. It is easier to use than WEN ( since it isn't as thick, it is much easier to rinse out) and I think that I am getting better results. I have been able to go 2 days with good hair with WEN, and can pass for a 3rd if neccessary, but I went a full 4 before I had to wash my hair again. Plus, it doesn't have the menthol smell that WEN has , which is a plus for me. I really haven't noticed a difference in the softness of my hair, but then my thick fine hair is healthy to start with. I just wish Karen would release this in huge bottles. ( I'll take the 1st gallon) :D

To those of you who are using it as a cleansing conditioner, one thing that I did learn when I switched to WEN was that I needed to wash daily for about a week, as my hair adjusted. I had been using an SLS free shampoo prior to this, but for some reason, I really had greasy , flat hair at first. After the first week to 10 days, things started getting better. Also rinse and rinse again, even if I think I got all the product out of my hair, I will rinse again. This has really helped, whether I was conditioner only washing or using WEN or the Cranberrry Passionfruit Conditioner.

Thanks for the info on the shampoo, Samantha! I'll have to check it out. I really appreciate you taking the time to list the ingredients for me :)

question for those who have been using this for a little while--
do you find that this takes more product and/or time in the shower than regular shampoo/conditioner?
i sometimes use a WEN-like product (Hair One that you can buy at Sally Beauty) but it takes 10 minutes for me to use it in the shower. 1-2 min of rinsing my hair, 3-4 minutes of applying the product, letting it sit 3 min, then rinsing for 2 more minutes. i have to use a TON to get it clean (like 30 pumps, and i only have shoulder length hair) and i feel like it wastes a lot of water. i do like how soft it makes my hair though.
the SN website says it takes 2-3 teaspoons and doesn't mention tons of rinsing or massaging...is it true? thanks for any input you can give me :)

My personal experience is that yes, it does take more product than regular shampoo/conditioner (i don't use 2-3 tsp of shampoo) and yes, the rinse-out time is significantly longer than the rinse out time for shampoo IMO. The sitting time doesn't bother me because admittedly I really like showers (which probably makes me a bit of a water waster, but DH and i usually share the shower which kind of cuts the water use back to normal, right? :D ). Several have mentioned the adjustment period for cleansing conditioners (aka a greasy look/feeling) which i did experience and went back to my shampoo because it's what I'm more comfortable with. Even using the product as a standard conditioner (with a regular conditioner product amount), my hair is a LOT softer. If you're already using shampoo and conditioner- it won't hurt to give this a try in place of your regular conditioner. I really don't think you'll be disappointed.

It does take more product than regular shampoo and conditioner, however, I don't think that it takes me more time. I rinse my hair really well when I first get in the shower, work the product through my hair massaging my scalp and then rinse, I then apply for the second time, massage well and comb through, I then finish my shower and rinse my hair out. I have washed my hair this way, even when using regular conditioner and shampoo, and have always combed my conditioner though and let it sit while I finished showering, so the time is the same for me.
