Lip Care Confusion

Post by JannyGirl » Tue Dec 07, 2010 11:17 pm

I was wondering if the plain Lip Lube is out of stock permanently or temporarily? I don't think I overlooked it, but I may have. I have a friend that prefers plain lip balm.

Also, I have a question about the formula of the balms. I remembering Karen saying there was a v. 1 and a v. 2 (which was not as "slicky" [my word] feeling as v. 1), and there is or was going to be a v. 3 that was a combination of v. 1 and v. 2, but felt more like v. 1. Hope I didn't make that too confusing! :D Anyway, my question is: what version are the current balms? Are they all the same or is there a difference between the balms that have been on the site and the new ones?

TIA! :)

I THINK version 1 is the originals which are more moisturizing and version 2 was the waxier version that came after. Since there seemed to be a pretty clear divide, the new balms are supposed to be a pretty decent blend of both- waxy enough to last a little longer on your lips but still offer good moisture to winter chapped lips. I think Karen is kind of waiting for feedback before truly committing to the new formula, but i could be wrong.

I had an OMG moment in the middle of the night Sunday- I didn't do a plain! Sam is correct- there are 3 versions, and all of the new balms are v 3.0. Hopefully you'll all fall in love with that one, and we'll just proceed from there. I'm not that naive- but that's my hope. Feedback is very very welcome.

Thanks so much! :) I guess we'll have to give the new formula a go and see. I really love a "slicky" balm, so I hope the new formula does the trick because the original version is the best balm by far I have ever used.

Lol...No worries, Karen, especially with all the beautiful new products and yummy balms you have turned out your plate has been more than a little full. :)

And, thank you for being so open to feedback. I need to try a new balm. As long as it has an overall slicky feeling to it, I'll be happy. ;) Do you think you'll add a plain balm? I was planning to order some as stocking stuffers for those that prefer the plain.

Whatever version Tahitian Vanilla is, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT !!! It is sooooo soft and moisturizing - the texture is AMAZING.
I do have a question - based on the name, I thought this was going to be vanilla laden, but I don't notice any trace of vanilla in the balm. I do taste the sweetness of the Stevia, but that's it. Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Kim

below is what i came up with for the ingredients for each of the versions of the lip lubes/balms. if anyone can confirm or correct this, that would be great. i really like version 2 but disliked version 1 quite a bit--i was really not impressed with how it had no staying power.
it seems like the ingredients between the 3 are quite similar--some oils are in some but not others, but it seems like mostly it's the amount/ratios of the ingredients that are different.

Version 1: (i had the bad girl green apple one)
Ingredients: Castor, Jojoba, Avocado, and Apricot Kernel oils, Beeswax, Candelilla Wax, Grapeseed Oil, Hempseed Oil, Cranberry Seed Oil, Carnuaba Wax. Flavor- stevia with organic extra virgin coconut oil, and flavor/essential oils

Version 2: (i have the tahitian vanilla, it's great!!)
Ingredients: Extra Virgin Olive Oil*, Castor Oil *, Beeswax*, Candelilla Wax*, Jojoba Oil*, Hempseed Oil*, Pumpkinseed Oil*, Cranberry Oil, Avocado Oil, Carnuaba Wax*, flavor, stevia

Version 3:
Ingredients: Olive*, Castor*, Jojoba*, & Avocado Oils, Beeswax*, Candelilla Wax*, Hemp & Cranberry Oils, Carnuaba Wax*, Flavor*, Stevia

I think Susan poured the plain balms today, and I'll make the labels for them when I go in tomorrow. So, hopefully they'll be on the site by the end of the week.

Version 1 had mainly penetrating oils- so people who liked it really liked that it moisturized well, but it soaked in really quickly. Version 2 had mainly non-penetrating oils, so it lasted a long time on your lips. It seemed really great in the Summer when I made it, but when Fall came around, I felt like it needed to be a little more moisturizing. Version 3 has a blend of the 2- tweaked, and tweaked and tweaked to find the balance between moisture and lasting.

I'm happy with the way that formula 3 turned out, but I know that balms are something you never really get completely right or completely wrong- it's the nature of the product.

For some reason I seem to be allergic to the plain balm. I don't have any problem with any of the other balms.
