tinted moisturizer using mineral foundation

Hello ,
I was just wondering if anyone mixes their mineral foundation with their moisturizer to create a tinted moisturizer..I would like to try this out because it would be much easier and less messy to apply. I read online that it may not be a good idea as the powder would just stick to the moisturizer . Please post your experiences with different ways of applying your foundation.

I've not had luck with this... I've tried it with other brands and it was disastrous. With SN I don't have much luck either... I could be the moisturizer I use though! Hopefully someone else who has had better experiences with it and post!

I haven't had much success mixing mineral foundation with moisturiser (it does indeed get a bit claggy), but mixing a few crumbs of the SN foundation pigment with your moisturiser or sunscreen definitely does work. I always wear an spf 50+ zinc oxide based liquid sunscreen but it turns my face white - adding the base pigment sorted that right out; I've done it so often that I now just add a few scoops of powder to my bottle of sunscreen, give it a good shake and I'm all set. If you use foundation correctors, you can also add them to your blend at the same time (I add a smidge of the green). I'd suggest trying it a few times mixing a speck of pigment with sunscreen in your hand to start with, or decanting some sun protection into a smaller bottle/jar before committing to 'transform' a whole bottle of sunscreen.

Do bear in mind that the pigments change colour when they're wet - so buttery gold (which I use) actually makes the post-mixed liquid look like it's somewhat pinkish in undertone.....but once it's rubbed into the skin the intended shade returns. It looks really wierd when you first apply but keep on rubbing it in and it looks brilliant. The combo of ZnO and the pigment gives some coverage, whereas if you just add pigment to a regular moisturiser it creates more of a transparent effect whilst adding a hint of colour.

I tried this a long time ago. I do think it could work if you mix it up in your hands as you put it on. I tried to mix up a week's worth, and all that happened was that my moisturizer demulsified (the phases of the moisturizer seperated). It was not pretty. Like butter topped with water. Maybe start small if you want to experiment?

I'm an echo on this thread- but I thought I'd chime in with the reason it doesn't work.

Both zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are very heavy, and need to be dispersed in the oil phase of a liquid foundation (there's an oil phase, and a water phase that they emulsify together to make a liquid foundation). They have to put it through a mill, and grind it in with some sort of dispersant- oil, silicone, or something like that. In powder form they're not really milled to disperse easily in an emulsion. You can mix it in your hand, but dumping a bunch in a bottle of moisturizer doesn't work that well.

I have tinted moisturizer with minerals before several times, but as noted above, it really only works if you mix on an as needed basis. I typically just shake some powder into the palm of my hand and squirt my moisturizer there and kind of "stir" with my finger before I put it on. I will say--perhaps because my moisturizer is thick, or because of the spf, it sets up fairly quickly, so you'd need to put it on with some speed. It does not quite provide the coverage of the powder on it's own, but if I'm lazy or in a hurry, it works.
