Zinnia vs. other coral colours?

Post by lilychemgirl » Thu Aug 19, 2010 3:10 am

Hi All,
Does anyone else have zinnia and temptation or ingenue or other coral SN colours? I adore temptation, but ingenue didn't work for me and I am not sure about zinnia, I am put off by the reviews that say it looks pinky... what do you all think?
Thanks,
Lily

Zinnia is PINK on me, not coral at all. Temptation is coral w/ a hint of red ...very nice when I have some color. Ingenue is peach on me.

I have Zinnia and it is NOT pink on me at all. It's definitely peachy on me. It reminds me a lot of Mirabelle but in a liquid form. I don't have the others that you've listed.

Zinnia turns so pink on me I rarely ever wear it... In the tube it looks like it'll be more coral than it applies, chalk it up to my odd lip pigment I guess. JenK and I tend to have the same lip colors turn pink on us, so if you've noticed other shades turn on you, this might be one to sample. I have a sample of it (made a few to try in case it turned pink and I needed to swap it) and plan on buying Verve next week. If you'd like I can mail you samples of both, though it'll be a while since I won't be home for at least another week, and you may not want to wait that long! :P

For reference Ingenue is a bit odd on me, if I put a pale, pale nude underneath it or Gleaming it turns a creamy peach color that I love! (Come to think of it, should try that with Zinnia!) I wouldn't wear it alone though... Truly looks pink on me, not coral. Temptation stays coral on me and lightens nicely with Gleaming layered over it. Verve stays coral red as well.

I samples Temptation, and it looked odd on me: kinda harsh reddish orange, not flattering. I do however love Ingenue! It's almost like Mirabelle, but less loud and less pink. I like Zinnia too, and to me it looks like in between Ingenue and Mirabelle, with the pretty liquid shine.

So the consensus is that it is a pinkish orange? I can't wear pinkish oranges, only reddish/clear oranges :( Oh well, better to know than to buy it and find out then.

Yeah, I think that's the consensus... I can only wear reddish/clear oranges well...or even creamy oranges, but they have to be orange, not pink! You could try Verve, it's definitely not pink. But it's intense, and I'm not entirely sure one needs to own both Temptation and Verve unless you are looking for something without the gold shimmer Temptation has in it, or red/orange is your favorite lip shade to wear! Verve is just a bit clearer/brighter/smoother looking than Temptation.

I just ordered Zinnia last week. Will post a swatch of it next to Temptation when I get it. Probably by next week.

Thanks Aud :)

I do really really love temptation... I don't think I have tried verve, although sometimes I forget what I have actually tried, lol  I am loving the look of the new orange butter cream ♥ I can't wait until it comes out!

Here ya go. Sorry, the light's really bad on this cloudy day, so I can't quite get the colours in daylight. Had to tweak them a bit in Picassa but they're still not optimal.

Image

That's about 3 - 4 coats of Zinnia on my lips. It applies very light/ sheer, as compared to ST, hence the number of coats. But it does warm up after a while (15 minutes) and evens out, with the colour intensifying as it does so. It's not exactly a warm coral per se, but more of a raspberry pink coral to me. I compared the tube and the colour to the Zinnia page on SN. It actually looks very close to the photo of the gloss http://host.silknaturals.com/creb/images/zinnia-lg.jpg, just slightly less pigmented on the lips. After 40 minutes on me, it still looks the same, without any further intensification.
It's a nice shade, not terribly pink (except for Pout, pink and I don't get along). Generally warm, with a slight cool tinge to it, if that makes sense! Temptation is an "older"/ more "matured" and definitely warmer sort of colour on me (and whitens teeth), but Zinnia's more modern, up-to-date, slightly pinker, less orange and has that lovely liquid gloss sheen.
