Hair Care

Post by missyjean » Thu Jun 24, 2010 10:46 pm

I'm starting to get super frustrated with my skin and hair.

You see,I'm a teenager with acne. I also have really pretty hair that I like to do stuff with. HOWEVER,I can't even use conditioner in my hair because of two ingredients that seem to be in every conditioner I find. Cetearyl alcohol and cetyl alcohol. They're fatty alcohols.Don't think of the rubbing alcohol in your first aid kit, think of a waxy substance. These ingredients seal in moisture and make your hair feel soft, but they also can break out certain acne-prone individuals that are sensitive to it.

Don't even get me started on hair gels/mousse.

My hair breaks more easily because all I'm using is a cheap shampoo.I can't even style it all pretty because of my cruddy teen skin =(

One thing I love about Silk Naturals skincare is that they are not only effective, but 99% of them won't break me out. I think one of the moisturizers has cetearyl alcohol in it,but that's made for aging skin anyways.
So...I have no doubt that Karen could create a luxurious haircare line as well! I think she should totally try if she wants someday! =)

Karen does make some pretty awesome hair care, but as of yet, has never sold it. Maybe she'll change her mind ;)

In the meantime, I'm kind of amazed that you still use cheap storebrand haircare when there are lots of all natural brands out there without those alcohols.

Kiss My Face- Shampoo Ingredients: Certified Organic Floral Water of Rosemary, Chamomile, Lemon Balm, Water, Infusion of Organic Herbs of Nettle, Olive Leaf, Calendula, Sage, Lavender, Certified Organic Aloe Vera, Olefin Sulfonate, Cocomidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, Sea Salt, Caprylic Acid, Glycine, Lavender Oil, Green Tea Extract, Wheat Protein, Tocopherol, Lime Oil, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid (Conditioner contains alcohol)

I personally like the shampoo and conditioner from For Your Nose, but you'd have to email them for the ingredients to be sure. I often go with just shampoo and use a couple drops of an oil (like coconut oil/manoi de tahiti, or argan oil) to condition. I have also made my own conditioner before (really loved the conditioner, but don't love making it)

You can also try shampoo bars, like Chagrin Valley Soap and Craft Makes.

I haven't even heard of those brands before! Except for Burt's Bees of course.

Thanks so much for the ideas!

I've developed trust in Karen too, though. I switched to her skin care stuff and some new vitamins a while ago and my skin looks a lot better. She is just phenomenal at making stuff! I wish I could go to her for all my hygiene/beauty needs LOL.

I started washing my hair with baking soda and rinsing it with apple cider vinegar b/c my hair products made me break out. My hair is thicker and softer now, too :)

If you google "no shampoo" or "no poo," you will be able to view some discussions of it.

IDK what ingredients are in Aubrey organics, but they make sprays and gels for styling that are all-natural.

Seriously.I might as well buy everything at SN. Who needs anything else?

The lippies are superior, the skincare is superior, the foundation is superior, and the shadow is superior...
