Refillable Travel Brush

Post by lilbit88 » Thu Jun 17, 2010 4:26 pm

I am a new convert to Silk Naturals - just LOVE the products, and particularly the brushes. My only wish at this point was that the minerals were a bit more portable for touch-ups. A normal person probably could carry a little jar of the perfecting powder and a travel brush, but I am far too klutzy to attempt this. I used to have one of the Bare Escentuals Refillable Buffing Brushes - it's a brush with a container on the bottom that you just shake through, but I didn't like it - I find all of the Bare Minerals brushes far too scratchy and uncomfortable!

Could you please develop something akin to this, but using one of your fabulous synthetic brushes? I love the flat top brushes, but one of your little kabukis would be perfect on top of a container like this for touch-ups! Thanks!!

We are always on the look out for a good one to stock. We did stock one from our main brush supplier, but it was not really that great. I am sure if we can find a really good one, and if it is feasible, we would stock it.

I currently use one from Sephora. It cost a prince's ransom, but it's serviceable.

I, too, would like to see an improved travel brush, however.

My main complaints with my current travel brush are (1) that it doesn't allow enough product through so the coverage is quite deficient IMO and (2) the texture of the brush is kind of scratchy.

I've bought several refillable brushes like that over the years (including the SN one) and none of them really thrilled me. The powder goes everywhere, doesn't dispense the right amount, and boy is it awful when they accidentally come unscrewed or the cap comes off while inside your purse!

After trying those and carrying a travel jar and brush (and making a disaster) I'm convinced that there are only two feasible solutions:

1. A jar that has a turnable sifter so the powder drops back in after shaking it up (hard to describe, think of the sifter on the cheap parmesan cheese containers) with a brush that snaps onto/into the lid (Revlon used to make shimmer powders that did this).

2. A pressed mineral compact with a snap in brush.

Everything else I've tried gets all over me, my purse, and my surroundings! Then again, I'm admittedly a klutz. ;) Right now I just carry around blotting papers, unless I'll really need a touch up, then I use the brush and travel container in a ziplock baggie solution.

Same as those speaking before me: not much look with the prefilled brushes :/ I'm now using a baby kabuki (which would be an excellent size for prefilled ones, but no manufacturer seems to think so, they all make only big ones) and a sample size container. The one Tiara described would be great; one of the expensive companies that now also does minerals has a good travel container, forget who. Maybe something like this but small: http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/25634 ... image.html ?

Oh, I DID have one several years ago that I loved. It was from The Body Shop. It came with glitter powder inside it.

I don't know if they are still using the same packaging, but the one I had circa 2004 was amazing.

Bare Essentuals now has locking sifters, If Karen could get her hand on some of those they might help. I haven't seen them , but they sound kind of like the top of the Parmesan cheese.

Coastal Scents has the containers with locking sifters...a 20gm as well as 30gm version. I ordered a few of them and the seal is pretty decent for travel. The containers themselves are also pretty sturdy.

I was actually talking about what zeebs referred to in her post - something similar to that Body Shop product but comes empty and refillable. I think egerandi's suggestion is perfect - a baby buki with a smaller container attached - with a button on the end like the Body Shop container to control the flow of powder.

We used to stock one. When it was good- it was a great brush. When the pump jammed, or it fell apart in your purse- not so much. It was about the best one I'd ever used because it did have the nice synthetic bristles, but we took a fair amount of returns on them, and that's not cool either.

What I have been doing is putting a 10-gram jar of perfecting powder, and a baby buki in an Altoids tin to carry around with me, and that works quite nicely. I can even squeeze in a lippie!
