You can see my bowl in the picture below, on top of a folded microfiber cloth which I use to clean my brushes between washings. I can't remember where I got it, but it is a ceramic bowl (the kind you might find at a local art fair) with a nice smooth glaze. I wash it when I wash my brushes (generally, once a week). It does pick up some residue from the makeup, so I have concluded that a glass bowl of a similar size would really be the ideal solution.

Wow, that's a really big swirling bowl. I just use one of those little glass condiments bowls that you get soy sauce in.

Edited to add: I am drooling over your makeup table! With two little girls in the house all mine has to be packed away, I would love to have it all beautifully laid out like yours!

Aw, thanks! Yeah, I'm lucky that it's just adults in my house and that I have my own table to lay it all out on! :) I used to use a candle holder from Aveda as my swirling bowl, but now I'm using that for my lippies and you can see how big my white brushes are - when I got those I had to trade up the bowl too :)

I know I should use swirly bowls for pretty much anything mineral, but for most things I'm bad and use the lids.

I do, however, have a couple of small bowls that I use when I'm working with sample sizes of glow powders or blushes. I bought a two pack of small silicone bowls at Wal-Mart. The size is perfect and I like that I'm not going to break them, and the size works really well. The color/sparkles do cling a bit, but that really doesn't bother me.

I use 1) empty EDM XL-jar
The jar is for the face colors, glows and etc and the lid is for my foundation. It is easy to clean and good for travelling, when I take several small jars and this big.
2) A pot for teabags when I do not use much makeup - just Perf powder and some blush.
Current ratio, Sept. 13: 1 Ebony : 1 Buttery Gold : 15 All Purpose : 5 Ivory : 2 Yellow : 1 Liberty : 1 Beach Bunny
The mix is pale and does't look yellow
