Lippies texture

Post by jandi » Mon Jul 07, 2008 9:49 am

I have found the texture of a few of the lippies seems to be more creamy than others, and now I am having trouble as some of my lippies are crumbling and breaking when I try to apply them, kind of as if they were melting. The odd thing is that it is not all lippies: Foreplay is one I am having lots of troubles with, while Breathless and most of my other lippies are still solid even if I throw them in my pant pockets for the entire day. I am thinking of throwing the few that seem to be melting to the fridge, would that help? I am puzzled also why I see this in only a few lippies.

I've never had that happen with any of my lippies (and i have about 40). Foreplay does have glitter in it which might be part of the problem. Did you buy yours after it got hot? Maybe travelling in the heat is frying/changing some of the lippies...

Hi,
It's very weird because I kind of abuse the lippies that I have just to make sure that they hold up to most things. They should survive a pocket all day, the washer (not recommended, but they do), and a few other things. They're designed to melt at about 100 degrees, so they don't like hot cars and they may have melted and reformed oddly- it's pretty rare for that to happen though (we do melt them to get into the tubes). Contact me through the site, and we'll see what we can do for you.

Take care,
Karen

Yes! That happened to my Damsel lippie too! And I thought I was the only one that it happened to!

 It's funny other people are posting about this issue, as I've had the same thing happen to 3 out of the 6 lippies from SN I own, but I never bothered to post about it or email Karen since I assumed I was the only one this happened to  .

It seems to occur when I get 1/3 to 1/2 way through a tube, the contents seperate into clumps making the lippie difficult to apply (I have to massage the clumps into my lips with my finger so the colour looks even, rather than just applying straight from the tube). But otherwise the colour, scent and taste of the lippies seem normal enough so it doesn't worry me too much, it's just a pain in the behind! .

I'd wondered if it was happening because often I can't get the lippies to twist down again (so I have to push them down with my finger after applying), or because of the fluctuating weather Wales has been having (cold one minute, boiling the next).

Yes...a lot of temperature fluctuations, and pushing on them can "fracture" them and make them kind of chunky towards the end of the tube. They are all natural so they're a little more delicate than petroleum based products- but still fairly tough. I don't recommend twisting them up and pushing them back down too much- there's a lot of beeswax in the formula and it doesn't "shrink" much so it doesn't roll up and down out of the tube easily. It will a little, but it's better to twist them up just a little and then put the lid back on- especially if it's warm out. If you're adventurous you could try heating them gently, and leaving them alone to cool- but they don't like to stand up by themselves very easily .

Thanks for the advice Karen :) .I'll definitely try not pressing the colour back down after using. It sounds daft but I hadn't really considered trying to just put the lid back on with the colour still showing (since I don't twist it up that far), I guess I'd gotten so used to automatically twisting the product back down with regular non-mineral lipsticks (to avoid mess if the lids came off , but a little mess would be worth it if it stops the crumbling). Thanks again

P.S Any minor problems hasn't stopped me lemming more of the lippies, in fact I've got Damsel in my wishlist right now ;) .

I will write to you now, Karen.

I do want to mention that I love SN lippies and already own 7, and there are, ahem, quite a few others in my wishlist. I only brought up this topic because I hate not being able to carry with me some of my lippies on fear they would melt.

I got most of them during the winter, and it is getting hotter now, so I can understand some change on texture. I am puzzled because only a few shades are melty.
