I need a revamp

Post by Linea » Wed Apr 07, 2010 1:59 pm

Hi all,

I've been using SN for a long while, and wouldn't consider using anything else. I have really strange colouring, and my skills for picking colours are sub par at best. Hence the plea for help, as I'd love to enhance my looks, not just wear foundation and mascara.

My skintone is wonky, there's no red or much yellow to be found. My veins look blue. After using retin a, there's a red tinged overtone in my face, but my neck looks more greenish. After trying, mixing and tweaking I finally found my match in the olive base, though a very fair blend. I have brunette hair, fairly dark, which is ashy in normal light, but a most noticeable golden tone in sunlight. Eyes are green, with a deep blue ring around, and golden flecks.

My problem is that makeup colours look either really obvious, or downright off on me. I basically use the foundation, mascara, a bit of Sassy or Petal blush. For night I may add film noir eye liner and perhaps a bit of Bewitched on top of it. Eyeshadow makes me look ill or like I have been punched. On lips I love Soft, but that's about the only one I've found that works. Too cold or too warm colours are equally bad.

I'd love to try golden eyeshadow to make my eyes pop, peachy blushes and lip coulours. Any ideas are much appreciated! Thanks for reading my ramblings!

your coloring really doesn't sound horribly off from mine- i vary between mixes of olive or warm gold with lavender to counter the orange throughout the year (though i'll be honest, with my skintone- i prefer premixed shades from other companies that i can tweak throughout the year- usually something mostly neutral and fair but leaning olive or golden). I have medium brown hair, eyes that change color but are usually either green or a slate color, and antiqued rose colored lips. I'm fair so i burn first and then tan and can continue to deepen that tan.

well firstly i will tell you that i generally don't do blues and purples as well as i do other colors. I have dark circles and blue veins at my temples so those colors tend to make me look unwell or bruised if not done very carefully (can wear them, have to be very careful).

There aren't a whole lot of golden colors in the regular SN lineup and I don’t know what GWP shades you might have. My fav. golden/tan GWP would be Riddle and Tailfeather(still available- neutral golden copper). I also really like Quartzite(light tan shimmer)

For colors, I think you’d love high beam- I know I do. It pairs really well with a lot of other colors too- from purples to teals to browns and pinks. Breathe is a purple than I CAN wear easily. Greens are fantastic too, but since it’s sounds like right now you don’t wear shadows at all, I try to start in the more earthy browns range- they’re easier to do correctly and gain confidence with before branching out into more color.

My favorite blush is sassy and it’s pretty much my go to- I THINK I‘ve stocked enough to last me forever. Lovelace is an amped up version of sassy, slightly pinker- and I highly recommend bronzed beauty.

For peachy lips, try gold blush or precious, don’t think you can go wrong with either of those.

So MY final verdict for a mini-haul?
Eyeshadows: Tailfeather, Highbeam, and Mouse (it’s good as a liner and a crease color, it’s not harsh looking, and it’s matte)
Blush: samples of Lovelace and Bronzed Beauty
Lips: Gold Blush and/or Precious

Can't live without colors: Highbeam, Homecoming Queen, Sassy, & Cider
