SN Newbie here w/ pix. Product recommendations, please? :)

Post by Jenlynn418 » Thu Apr 01, 2010 2:51 am

Hey everyone! I'm new to Silk Naturals.

These are the products I currently have in my cart. Maybe you can help me narrow it down...say nay to certain ones you think wouldn't suit me (I'm warm, golden toned), or suggest better products/additional produts I should definitely try? The color selection is a little daunting for me, and I'm going overboard lol :P
Any help at all--with certain products or all of them will be much appreciated!

Perfecting Powders:
Temp Tryst
Love Lure
(No idea which is better for me)

Glows:
Cupid
Halo
Siren
Heavenly

Blush Samples:
Lady
Crinoline
Nuance
Carnal
Sin
Poppy
Desert Plum
Galaxy

Lippies:

Need help with this the most lol...I'm horrible at picking out lippies for myself, especially since my lips are pretty pigmented.
I'd initially like to order 1 red shade, 1 nude/neutral shade, 1 brownish/raisin shade, 1 peachy/coral shade, but can't choose 1 of each. lol

Berry Crush
Reddy
Sultry
Hot Blooded
Maiden
Mimosa
Prelude
Nude Beach
Nectar
Rare Berry
Summer Fling
Temptation

Also, can you please suggest a suitable brow powder color for my black hair.

And if you could also suggest (darker/olive) green, purple, brown, and highlight eyeshadow colors that would suit me?
I'm interested in all finishes :)

Pix for reference:

Outdoors

Indoors with Flash

This is my usual look. For nude-ish/neutral lips, I like lipglosses similar in color to what I am wearing (NYX Sponge Cake). If there is a color similar or within the same color range, please let me know!

Sorry if this is lengthy, I just figured I'd get everything I could in 1 post to make it easier. lol
Thank you so much in advance!

I would just like to say you're really pretty :)

I ave around your color skin maybe darker, But I love both tempt tryst and love lure, Tempt tryst is more golden/sheer, love lure is golden/tan it is sheer but has a bit more color

I haven't tried much of the blushes/glows but def try carnal. you will love it :)

For lippies def. get nude beach and I think you will like both sultry and hot blooded(more shimmery) if you like reds
I am on the fence about nectar it's a sheer red and I think you would like prelude I think it will turn up red on you too though
Mimosa is a really pretty golden peachy pink on me, I'm not sure about the rest. But I hoped that helped a little.

Agree that both finishers will work for you. TT is golden, LL is more bronzey/tan. TT is slightly more shimmery.

All of the glows you ahve chosen should complement your tone well. (I know I am not helping here.) You may want to choose the glows that are different in tone from the Love Lure (Siren) and Tempt Tryst (Halo). For Cupid and Heavenly, both will look lovely....Cupid will be more like a blush, Heavenly more like a highlighter and blush combined. If you want just a highlighter, go with Halo.

Blush: Poppy and Nuance are close....Nuance is probably a little mor pigmented.
Carnal is the clone for Sin.....yes, this is a good one for you. Desert Plum might be a little light (and is somewhere between Lady and Carnal), as might Crinoline, but I think they will still work. Lady and Galaxy are also good. To narrow down....Nuance, Carnal, Galaxy, and Lady. Peach, Plum, Reddish, Pink.....2 shimmers, 2 mattes.

Lips:
Red- Hot Blooded or Sultry since you are warm toned, Reddy tends to work better for the cooler toned complexions, but not always.
Nude/Neutral- Maiden will be about the color of your lips, Nude beach will fall here, too. The first is matte, the second shimmery.
Brown/Rasin- Nectar
Peach/Coral- Mimosa will be very light..just a sheer wash, Temptation is good
Supper Fling and Berry Crush are more pink...I think Prelude will lean pink on you, too. Berry Crush and Prelude might fit into your nude category...Summer Fling is the pinkest.

Brows: Try samples of Medium Ash and Deep Brunette...I am leaning Deep Brunette. Eyeshadows in the next post....

Eyeshadows-
Dark Green- Caperberry (matte) or Grassroots Green....
Dark Purple- Martian, Velvet, Aubergine.....lightest to darkest, but Martian is the most interesting of the bunch, but it leans brown
Dark Brown- for a matte Basalt (ore even your Deep Brunette Brow powder), for a shimmer Vogue
Highlighters- Tailfeather, Purr

You definitely helped! Thank you so much! It's also helpful knowing your complexion is relatively close to mine. If you like the products you mentioned, most likely I'll enjoy them, too :)

Also, thanks a lot for the compliment!

Hi Jenlynn418,

We have similiar coloring too. I'm a tad on the neutral side and deeper in color :) I included some items that I've tried and I think would work nicely with your coloring.

Glows
Siren (this is a realllly nice bronzer.. you only need a little bit. It gives a really pretty kissed by the sun glow.)

Blush Samples
Carnal (love love love this blush! it will warm up on your complexion)
Poppy
Cider (this blush is very subtle, but it gives the cheeks a nice healthy glow)
Embrace (this is a really nice, just in from the cold blush)

Eyeshadows (I have just gotten into e/s so this is why I only own 2 SN e/s but I think these 2 colors would nice on you)
Augerbine e/s (nice as a eyeliner or for the outer v)
Chic (this is a veryy pretty golden brown color -- i like it because its not a neutral brown)

Lippies - From your last picture, the lip color looks very similiar to how Tender looked on me. For reference, my lips are pretty pigmented. My top lip is tan, bottom is pink.

Hope this helps! Let us know what colors work for you!

I am glad I helped. Part of what helped me answer so thoroughly is that you were pretty specific on what you wanted. It makes it easier for me to narrow things down.

I also think the gals with similar coloring have the most valuable color recommendations. They live in them... ;)

Thank you so much for your suggestions!! I just checked out swatches of cider and embrace. They both look beautiful! I didn't even take a look at those initially, but I'm gonna have to order some samples of those now. lol I'm looking for natural looking blushes :) And TY for suggesting a lippie similar in color to mine. I love that NYX gloss one but it has chunky pieces of glitter. It has that annoying gritty feeling. lol

Once I finalize my order and receive everything, I'll make sure to check in, write reviews, and let you guys know what works :D

haha thank you :) Yeah, I didn't want to be too vague, especially since I had a lot of products listed. :P
And I agree, I definitely value the recommendations of those with similar coloring. They're very helpful!

As far as eyes shadows go, (lol, sorry I'm stretching this thread even further than I had planned) I was looking at that purple shadow "Bewitched". It looks like a vibrant, interesting color. Do you think it would be too dramatic looking for daytime use, or is it the kind of shadow where you can start more sheer and build the intensity?

Also, after you recommended "Martian" the rest of the morphing eye shadows caught my eye. lol The finishes look so pretty. I was looking at "Butterfly Blue", "Sprite" (too light and shimmery for a highlight on my skin?), "Groove", "Shimmy", "Sizzle", and "Pixie" (a lot, I know). Would you say these colors could flatter my complexion? Perhaps you can suggest a better one for me?
