Can I pull Raisin off?

Post by zus » Tue Mar 23, 2010 11:57 am

A while ago I bought Raisin, and I really really like it. I have only worn it outside a handful of times because I'm not too confident it really suits me (I'm not a big lip colour wearer, so a colour this dark is a big change for me). I just wanted a dark colour and Raisin seemed to be the darkest I could find, and I didn't really spend too much time trying to figure out what colours would suit me.

The photo didn't really capture the colour properly, so I had to edit it a bit, and now looking at it, I wonder if Raisin is actually as dark and extreme as I am making it out to be, or if it's not Raisin that's dramatic, but me :P

oh, and I'm not clutching my neck trying to be all posey haha, I was trying to show my awesome matte grey nail polish all in the same photo :D

Yay, thank you! I usually wear dark on my eyes and nothing on my lips, so I was just afraid of it being a bit much.

Raisin looks beautiful on you! I don't think it's too dark or bold at all. Since it goes well with your skin and is a muted color (or at least it is on you in my book) I think you could carry it off with dark eyes for an evening look, or even a day look if you don't mind your make up being attention getting.

My sister wears pretty dark eye make up most days (she has dark hair, brown eyes, pale skin, similar to you) and pairs it with pretty punchy lip colors too, colors like Raisin, or bolder reds if she's feeling extra bold that day. But then again, she's the type of girl who will put chucks of red or blue color in her hair, and feels rules are made to be broken! Needless to say, we have a lot of fun with make up. I can't pull off the bold lips like she does, but my eyes are more often than not rather.....eye catching? ;)

Oh, and love the nails! Where did you get a matte grey color? I wore a matte navy color most of the winter and loved it!

Yeah it looks gorgeous! I bought Sultry after the girlies on here recommended it and it's pretty similar. I was worried raisin would be too browny but seeing how lovely it looks - I may just have to have a crack at it hehehe

Raisin does appear a bit brown on some swatches, but on my lips it doesn't show up brown at all, and it fades into a bit of a purple shade. I really like the look of Sultry too, I might have to try it next!

superwahz, I do like to dye my hair every once in a while, but I've calmed down a bit with the colours... I like to dye it dark with a bit of colour (navy blue, or almost-black-purple) in the winter and have it fade into my natural brown for the summer. I think a lot of times, I wear a bit too much dark on my eyes for what might be considered a appropriate for daytime... but I like it, and I keep it simple. I just don't want to go over the top! And as for the nails, it's the ManGlaze 'Matte is Murder.' It's supposed to be black, but it's a dark grey when you first apply it. After a couple of days, it buffs itself a nice, subtle sheen and gets a bit darker, it's really cool. I also tried their matte top coat but I can't make it work on any of my polishes... I really wanted a matte pink or something.

Wow! It is gorgeous on you! Makes me want to go add it to my cart, but I am pretty sure it is too brown for me... :?

Zus,

Raisin looks great on you (It looks that color on me too, great editing). I agree w/ you about it not appearing brown and fading to purple. I even wear it on weekends when I don't have any other makeup on. Makes me look put together w/o doing a dang thing. I wish more ladies would give it a try, it's one of my favorite lip colors.
