Finishing powder before or after eyes/cheeks?
Finishing powder before or after eyes/cheeks?
I've been doing eyeshadow and blush after finishing powder just because that's the way my makeup artists have always done it. But this morning I forgot to do anything at all and did eyes/cheeks first. Then I remembered, thought what the hell and put a layer of Date Bait on anyway. I think it actually worked better that way. It's 8:00 p.m. and my makeup still looks the exact same as it did at 8:00 a.m. Usually by the time I get to where I'm going, my blush is gone. Any reason to do it one way versus the other? If you do finishing powder last, do you have trouble with getting the darker colors all over your brush?

I always do my eyes first. I then clean up any spillage. Then I do my foundation, and then blush. Then I do finishing powder. Then I do my mascara and brows. Then I do my lips.

After foundation, before anything else. If I do it after blush I end up ruining my blush.

they teach to set the makeup first so that if there are any mistakes with eye makeup or blush, all you have to do is rub some foundation on top of or sweep the mistake away. But conventionally for the average person, it's best to do eyes, face, blush, contour, then powder to set.

I do finishing powder after my face (zinc primer, foundation, concealer), but before my blush and e/s. I don't even know where I got that, but it works for me!!

I apply my finishing powder before I do my blush. I usually do my eyes before I apply any other makeup , but If I don't then it goes on in this order: primer ( if I use one), foundation, finishing powder, blush, eyes. and then maybe I will swipe my powder brush back over my face and cheeks, but not always.

I do primer, concealer, foundation, finishing powder, blush, and then eyes. If I get a bit heavy handed with the blush, I will usually go back over again with my finishing powder to help bring it back down. But I haven't really had that problem since I started using the SN blushes.
I also will touch-up my under eye concealer if I have any eye make up/mascara smudgies going on. I probably should do my eyes first, but then I end up with foundation or finishing powder bespeckling my mascaraed eyelashes. Sigh...

0. Eyeshadow Primer
1. Foundation
2. SIAJ and Unblush
3. Eyeshadow
- at this point, sweep up fallout under eyes -
4. Blush and/or Contour and/or Bronzer
5. Finishing Powder
6. Eyeliner and Mascara
- touch up SIAJ if needed -
7. Finishing Powder
And no, I don't have trouble with the other colors. I try to just stipple the perfecting powder instead of blending it.

I always do my finishing powder last. It is finishing powder so I do it when I am finished.
Sometimes I will go over my cheeks again with the brush that I put the blush on with just to make sure the blush didn't get too muted down there is always a little color still on it.

Re: Finishing powder before or after eyes/cheeks?
I've always applied finishing powder last, after the blush and eyes and everything. I prefer to use it that way because I find it sort of brings everything together and makes it look like everything is blended and flawless. I find it makes my blush look more natural and it lasts longer too. I think its all down to experimenting and seeing what works for each person. Everyone has their own idea of what they want their make up to look like.
