Cecelia from the EDM Boards

Post by cecelia » Wed Dec 02, 2009 1:44 pm

Soo...I've been lurking for a little while. Trying to find something else I will be happy with after dumping EDM.
I've decided to place an order sometime soon, and was wondering if any of you ladies could give me your opinions on my color choices before I take the plunge.

For starters, I am relatively pale. I wore/wear EDM Golden Fawn mixed with Golden Fair to lighten it up. I have funny colored grey/green/teal eyes. I've always called them green, but my husband can't decide what color they are, and I've even had some guys walk up to me and ask me what color my eyes were cause they couldn't figure it out. The way I looked at it, they were the ones looking at them so they had a better idea than I did. ;)
My hair is light-ish brown with natural blonde highlights all over the place. So much so that I've been accused of dying my hair, something I've never even considered.
My lips are pretty pigmented, I once got sent to the principles office for wearing lipstick in school, which wasn't allowed, and I didn't even own.
So, I really don't care for blush, the only one I wear currently is Soft Touch from EDM, and I think if that ever ran out, I would probably try Petal from here. I like neutrals, some pale pinks and purples, but I can't wear anything too dark/harsh/bright. And dark pinks and red undertones make me look like I've been crying.
Ok, enough about me, on with the makeup!

So far in my shopping cart I have:
The sample kit for Buttery Gold and Original foundation.
Amethyst- Cream liner
Precious- Lippie
Nectar- Lippie
Lush Lash Black Mascara
Vanilla- Eye shadow
Sample Pore Refining Toner
Sample Ultra Sheer Zinc Finishing Powder

I want to add a brown to pair with Vanilla. I was looking at Terra, but it sounds like it has some red in it. So, instead I was considering Lurid or Eu-Taupe-Ia. I have seen the swatches by Jen (I think?), but can anyone give a review of these two? Which do you prefer? Which may look nicer against my coloring? Swatches of the two side by side or on an eye would be amazing. Also, I can't for the life of me do a search for Eu-Taupe-Ia, it won't come up even when I know I've seen it in posts.
I was also thinking of getting Vineyard and Nekkid. Are these two super shimmery? What are your thoughts on the colors?

Ok, I think that is all for right now. Sorry for the long post. Let me know what you think of the colors, I am just so conflicted. I can post photos if you think that would help, I'm just feeling kind of lazy right now.

For your foundation...you might need the Yellow Color Booster. Fair and yellow usally need to booster because in lightening the Buttery Gold so much...a good amount of the yellow quality can be lost. It is just part of color dilution.

For the eyeshadow....I would go with Lurid. It is a great shader to add eye contouring, as well as lining and adding definition. It is a great basic color and will pair with almost anything. Here is an older swatch with the Taupes. Is this the one you saw? Terra is matte and Lurid is kind of in between a matte and shimmer. I call it a semi-shimmer.

Nekkid and Vinyard are lovely.....They do have some shimmer but nothing too over the top.

Ahh, I forgot Eutaupeia.....It is an ever so slightly yellow hued taupe. You would never notice unless it was right next to Lurid. Eutaupeia is matte and probably not quite as deep as Lurid. Lurid leans more gray.

I just wanted to say hi to another former edm customer. I wore my sn foundation sample for the first time today. I love it. Good luck with your mix. Jen was spot on for my mix.

Cecelia,
I think you will like Eutaupeia since you are on the warmer side. Lurid is pretty cool toned.

I just want to add that I used a mix of EDM's Golden Fair and Fawn too. Like Jen said, the best match for me was Buttery Gold and with a little Yellow Booster. I have been using SN foundation for almost 9 mths and have found the perfect match for my skin tone here. Besides, the quality of SN's lippies, blushes and finishing powder is excellent and comparable to those from high end brands. My favorite lippie is Precious. You should try out samples from the skincare line too.

Hi, Colleen! I do remember seeing you on the EDM forums. I just posted a bunch of my stuff on MUA to make room for some new SN stuff. The environment here reminds me of how EDM used to be when I first stumbled on it over 3.5 years ago.

Chaye, thanks for the vote of confidence! The buttery gold + yellow booster is exactly what I will try. Maybe you can help me put together a recipe to start with? I am going to try the Pore-Refining Toner, and with my next order, the Oatmeal Serum. Since you are pretty similar to me in skin tone, do you have any opinions about Eu-Taupe-Ia, Lurid, or any other browns?

With the original formula, I used 10 ivory : 1 buttery gold + 1/4 yellow booster (to conserve ivory when you're starting out, you may want to half the recipe). For ref, in EDM, my mix is 1 Golden Fair: 1 Fawn (but a bit pale for me as I've strong yellow undertones). I also used Tempt Tryst (a tinted perfecting powder) as it cancels out the pinkness in my cheeks so my skin tone on my face matches my neck :). I highly recommend Tempt Tryst for its ability to blur imperfections and oil control. No harm trying a sample. :D

As for brown e/s, I only have Bare, Chic and Getaway (all older shades). Bare is really shimmery and a beautiful shade and light enough for an all over wash/base but I find it a tad sparkly though. Chic is more golden and sheer compared to Getaway, takes a few layers to see the deep golden brown tones and I have used it as a one color wash though it's not categorized as one. Getaway is an interesting color with olive and bronzy tones. Due to its darker shade, it's more suitable for crease only. I have attached swatches below. I got good dose of sunshine lately so my skin tone is darker and didn't do Bare justice. HTH.
