Switching over from EDM: Help a newbie out, please?

Post by meepocow » Sun Nov 22, 2009 4:59 am

Hi ladies!

So I've been wanting to try out Silk Naturals for awhile seeing as how it's gotten rave reviews over on the now-extinct EDM forum! I'm finally taking the plunge and I was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction foundation-wise!

My shade in EDM is Buttered Tan, which is a perfect match for me. I use the Matte formulation. My skin tone isn't the typical fair tone most Asians have, it's sort of a mix of tan and yellow undertones. Definitely not strong yellow, I'd say the tan is predominant. I have some pictures of myself below to help you out, but bear in mind some are in bright light/ flash light so my skin looks more fair than it really is.

I'm thinking of ordering the Medium Coverage Kit in Warm Gold.. I think Buttery Gold will be too yellow, and I'm neither peach nor ebony nor olive. I'd love to know what you think in terms of both shade and coverage!

I also heard that you have a vegan option, is there much difference between the normal and the vegan formula?

Thanks a bunch!

You look pretty much warm gold to me, too, but since you're ordering from overseas, spend the extra $2 to get samples of buttery and ebony - just in case you need to tweak it a little bit. I'm not sure you will, and if you do it won't be by much, so the samples will last you forever if you do need them. Just better to have them on hand in case.

It is kind of difficult to tell what your colour depth would be, because you do look quite fair in the first picture, and quite dark in the last one! I'd say start with 6 or 7 ivory to 1 warm gold - though you may have to lighten or darken a bit, but that's easy enough once you get started.

The medium coverage is good. A few ladies prefer the heavy, but to me that's more of a concealer consistency than a foundation one. Medium is hard to go wrong with. I usually wear the original (lightest), sometimes I skip foundation altogether and just use a perfecting powder, but I can wear the medium and it doesn't feel or look cakey. It does give more coverage than the original, but it still looks natural (believe me on this - everybody else's foundation cakes on me, even the sheerest, but I've never had a problem with SN).

Thank you so much, I shall do that! =) I'm excited to start mixing my own foundation!

Hi,
I was going to suggest the same as Rhys. It is good to have the sample colors for tweaks that might be necessary. It might also be a good idea to add an additional sample pouch of Ivory since you are overseas.

I am thinking you will be Warm Gold.....about 1:5 or 6 Ivory. You may need it a liitle paler than that (add a little more Ivory).

We do have a Vegan option.....The main difference is the omission of silk in the formula, plus the coverage is somewhere between our Original and Medium.
