deep vamp red lipstick

Post by Xarata » Sun Oct 18, 2009 11:55 pm

I could have sworn i posted this before but i double checked my posts and no such luck so if i'm posting again, i apologize.

I feel kind of guilty asking for ANOTHER red lipstick (the newest release had quite a few) but I've been hunting for a deep blood blackened red wine color and as of yet i don't have one. i do layer A LOT of lipsticks from SN to try and get what i want- not always successfully (combinations of swank, morello, platinum red, hotblooded, reddy, rouge, supreme, regal, raisin, and mulberry spice). I would love a deep "I have secrets" burgundy. not REALLY purple because that tends to lean too cool but definitely dark. Still hoping for a matte opaque black for altering too- swank doesn't quite get the job done in the altering department though i still love it on it's own. Of course, being bold- i don't want it to budge either. :)

Hi Sam, I'm sure I've seen that before but it would have been about a year ago. Love the idea as it's such a timeless look. It's like a dark Bramble colour. Gorgeous!

i have almost every SN lip color ever made (i think there were 2-3 Limited editions that i don't have). Black Dahlia is pretty but not particularly dark. It's kind of like a plummy version of XOXO

I've never been able to achieve that dark look that still looked natural without using the appropriate liner. I have a really dark matte burgundy from MAC (bought it a few years ago, and it's somewhere around in the house, heh, but I can look it up if needed), but I still have to use a liner to achieve the look, like a burgundy or dark brown liner. But yes, you would still need lipstick consistency to get this. Were you thinking of matte or shinier type?

A really dark stain with a matching lipstick might work? I looooove dark lips but hatehatehate having to reapply and check them all the time so at the moment I'm using dark stains with a slightly sheerer lipstick/gloss over the top

I'm totally with Sarah on this: the worst about dark lips is that you may lose the effect and have to keep re-applying, no matter how good the lippie is. I second the burgundy stain, as I'm having a blast with the cherry one (and rediscovered my older, non-SN stains too). BTW, for the record, that MAC lippie is Diva in matte, and the liner I use for it is Current, also MAC.

hmmm...i really should get a dark lip liner, a currant shade does sound about right. I don't normally wear lip liner and am actually thinking about just buying a clear lipliner for when i want a lipliner. I think I would prefer matte lipstick but i could be happy with an opaque shine. I agree that a sort of safe-proofing stain would definitely help, but platinum red was one of those amazing shades that stayed put for a good 6-8 hours on me. I wore it to work one day and halfway through my shift one of the girls said "how do you get your lipstick to stay on like that?" I told her I guess it's just good lipstick. We had a little mirror on the wall so i could check to see if it was disappearing or not. I didn't touch it up until about the 6th hour and even then it didn't really need it.
