anyone need a more yellow color base?

Post by packgal » Sun Jan 04, 2009 9:14 pm

i have been wanting to post this for awhile, but wasn't sure if it would be helpful to anyone--but thought now may be the best time given the last couple posts in the Foundation recipes thread under Makeup Talk section--
I normally use about 6 white to 2 buttery gold (going by the original white formula), but I've begun to notice that under natural light, my face is noticeably more red/pink than my neck (under indoor lighting, it's only noticeable under fluorescent light), even though it does blend into my face just fine. Is this just a matter of oxidation over time? I tend to mix up large batches because...well, I'm lazy, and the current batch, I mixed up quite a few months ago. I've used the same formula before and either I wasn't very good at distinguishing undertones before hand, or the pictures are lying to me (my neck and face matched fine in photographs).

I guess skintones can change between seasons and weather, but I can't figure out how to make the foundation more yellow. I'm already using the most yellow of the SN bases
i've tried a few times to mix up my own SN foundation. i have other brands that i am completely happy with (current fave is adorned with Grace in the Kindness shade) but i really think the mix-your-own idea is pretty fab. even though the finish of the SN foundation isn't my favorite (the silk dust for some reason seems to have a drying effect on my skin) i've tried 3-4 times to mix up a match but with no luck. my problem also seems to be that i can't get a 'yellow' enough color (when i compare to my current matches in other brands). i've tried with the buttery and warm gold bases, and have achieved a perfect depth of color, but not undertone--on my face it matches okay but makes me look flat instead of alive and healthy. since i am usually characterized as a "peachy golden" undertone in other brands, i tried using the peach + buttery gold base, but with similar results.
i'm surprised because even though i know i'm yellow, i'm not THAT yellow (i'm caucasian...swedish/danish/english descent). so it would surprise me if some with more yellow (asian complexions) aren't having the same problems. even if i did find a perfect blend, i would probably still use other brands just because my skin prefers a different finish, but i know if SN was my HG foundation formula i would be pretty sad about not finding a color match!
just wondering if anyone else needs more yellow. i'm sure karen would work on it if there was a true need for something like that.

have you tried tweaking it with the yellow sleep-in-a-jar?

Though I'm not sure it would be better than Buttery Gold, I would definitely like to *try* a yellower foundation. I have trouble with the Buttery Gold especially in the winter because it looks orange on me. I usually use 4:1 or 6:1 ebony:buttery when I mix but sometimes I still come out orange. The ebony alone is too dull but the buttery alone is too gold. So yeah I'd be interested to try a yellow but I'm not *sure* about it. Just my two cents.

I am also Scandinavian/Northern European by descent.
