I LOVE this foundation!!! I have tried a lot of different mineral foundations, they were OK. I hate to look like I'm wearing make up, that's why I always went for the mineral foundations...but some of them made my face itch or looked cakey and not natural!!! I couldn't believe how good this stuff was, it covered up my imperfections but still looked natural. Even my husband noticed! When my sample runs out I will be ordering the full size and hope that they will continue to make this forever, because nothing I've tried so far has worked this good! I've found exactly what I've been looking for in a mineral foundation!!!!!

A great foundation!
It's worth the effort to match your skin tone, for both value and a great match. I regularly use the Medium Coverage Ivory base for this (I like a good coverage for red/purple areas in my unevenly coloured skin) and have found a perfect colour with this foundation, something that is never the case with me on a purchased ready-made colour: cool is too pink; neutral is too yellow/orange; I didn't even know I have some green undertones. So I'm very happy with this. Coverage is quicker and more complete with Medium without being at all cakey.
I was generally alright with Al.Cool 2/3 and a bit of Al.Neutral/Beige 2/3 mixed in but always felt a bit frustrated with the result due to slightly unnatural colour. Playing with these, I had the opportunity to learn my ideal mix is about 32 Medium (1 tsp) : 2 Ebony : 1 Olive : 1 Golden Yellow : 3 or 4 'this and that'. Who knew? I have some green undertones. Even if you're fair and not Mediterranean, it can be the case! It isn't maybe the most common way they're used, but my 'this and that' is a few scoops as suits my mood of Ultimate Luxury Treatment Powder, Blur, and Glow to further lighten just a touch, and speed up my routine.
Knowing I had a cooler skin tone, I started by mixing in Ebony with some White; when it was too pink, I mixed some Golden Yellow with White and tried combining those two mixes at ratios. Adding the Olive made it perfect; but I didn't quite get to that with just one sample kit (I started with the All Purpose, which is more sheer than Medium, so needs even more white base to colour, if you're fair). I agree with others that it might take a bit to figure out what works; and with a fair skin tone you might need more of the white base to get there if you make any miscalculations initially. With a deeper skin tone, you might want to order extra of the colour you believe is closest to your base; extra white and the colours are found under "Foundation Refills".
I'm also really happy with the Perfecting Powder on top of this foundation, but didn't even bother to try the sample for over a year. (There's a sample in the full-size starter kit, but you only get one colour with that, so you'd need to know what it is for you. Obviously in my case I need three colours to mix a really well-matched foundation. This kit has plenty for a fair skin tone, though.) If you get a Perfecting Powder sample, try it! If you don't like your big pores, get it and use it! :) Nevertheless, even without PP, I am really happy with this foundation.

Don't be afraidReview by Gail ..
Don't be afraid to give custom blending your own foundation a try. I'm so glad I did! I use the All Purpose Ivory since I have somewhat dry skin. It looks natural and does not settle into lines or look chalky. I start with a light application and if needed I can build the coverage. I was confident enough that this formula would work for me that I got a full size refill with my sample kit since I have a lighter skin tone and the amount of pigment is generous in the sample kit. That way I would not have to re-order so soon.
One of the things I love about this foundation is that if I see myself reflected in the rear view mirror of the car later in the day - there are no scary surprises. I look either better or the same as when I applied it earlier in indoor lighting.

This product is amazing!!!!! I thought I was happy with the mineral make up I was using until I found this awesome sample kit! I followed other reviewers suggestions and purchased two sample kits. I highly recommend doing this just so that you can play around with the color. I started with one scoop of Ebony to twelve scoops of Ivory and it was still way too dark for my skin tone. I'm super fair so to lighten it up I added the rest of the first bag of Ivory and little bit from the second bag. I still need to adjust it a bit more but I'm on the right track. The feel of the foundation is like no other mineral foundation I have tried. It's super light and feels like I don't have any make up on and it still looks good at the end of the day! I'll be buying more of this soon. Thanks, Karen!!!

Ordered the AllReview by Sylvia R.
Ordered the All Purpose Ivory Kit plus Peach and Ebony samples.
Decent starter kit. I recommend buying all the shades to improve your chances of getting the perfect tone. The ONLY 3 reasons I am giving this a 4/5 is because of the following:
What I didn't like
1. I feel you aren't given enough product to work with in your quest for the perfect match. Even though I carefully used small amounts at a time, I was literally on my last scoop of Ivory before getting the closest shade to my skin tone. So either buy two kits or buy the full size Ivory refill if you are on the lighter side/Ebony if you are on the darker side because you will likely be needing that base color the most.
2. At first, I felt a little like I was about to be cast in a Broadway version of Twilight due to the tiny glittery white specks in the make-up. I assume this is to be be expected since it IS mineral make-up (?). It might be very noticeable to me because I am just not used to it (I am used to buying high end make-up, namely Dior, Chanel, and MAC). However, after a while I guess it becomes absorbed in the skin and blends just enough so it isn't TOO distracting and the final look is quite lovely.
3. I have combination skin and the coverage lasted about 3 hours (in which by that time I had to re-apply) so I wasn't too happy about that. The good news is that SN also offers medium & heavy coverage formulas so I shall try those next in hopes they will last longer on me.
What I REALLY LIKED
1. Glory BE!! You can FULLY customize your own make-up. This is more awesome than I can possibly express...and for a more than fair price (THANK YOU SN) you really shouldn't pass this up.
2. After application, the result gives you that fresh even toned look many of us seek. I felt as my skin could BREATHE with this make-up, and that's always a plus. I looked at my face at different hours of the day and in different lighting and it didn't look like I was wearing a mask. It didn't change color on me so this is an even bigger plus because due to my light tan, most foundation/powders have that dratted orange/red undertone that would make a guest appearance on my face 2-6 hours later(ewww).
3. Its build-able coverage. If you have blemishes of any kind, you can keep adding to that area without the make-up looking cakey. Loved that attribute a LOT.
4. Now if you've gone this far into my review and are still not convinced to get this kit let me tell you what totally sealed the deal with me. I was able to make my own Contour powder (I just added 1 scoop of a darker desired shade to my already made custom powder), concealer (I added yellow and peach corrector powder to my custom base + 1 drop of moisturizer), and liquid foundation (add your custom base into a drop of moisturizer, blend together then apply-and do it QUICKLY because it tends to dry up pretty fast) in colors that suit ME and MY COMPLEXION. This makes SN's kits/face products WORTH THEIR WEIGHT IN GOLD for me. No more spending money ''settling" for colors that were ''ok enough''. Its OVER! HALLELU!

Love, love, loveReview by Amanda B.
Love, love, love the all-purpose formula! A couple of tips for newcomers: 1) JenW is *THE* lady to ask for help for all of your color mixing needs. You can find her on the forums. 2) The correct mixture might look "holy-cow-that-is-WAYYY-too-light!" in the jar, but once brushed on the face and left on for 30 minutes--to let it mix with your skin's oils--you won't look powdery, even in your car's flip-down mirror at noon!
I have dehydrated aging skin with lots of peach fuzz on my face, and this is the very first mineral makeup to not make me look like I just smacked myself in the face with my grandmother's powder puff! Thank you so much, Karen.

I found thisReview by Thatsanee P.
I found this product is amazing. I can easily mix it and it also matches with my skin tone. Before I ordered this product, I'd tried to find many brand cosmetics. I suffered from choosing the wrongs and pricy stuffs. Moreover, most of them reminded me of oily and caky on my face. I would like to recommend it for those persons who have a acne-prone and oily shin. Enjoy and have fun ;)

I ordered thisReview by Dominique L.
I ordered this kit since I am transitioning from BE and needed new foundation. The foundation was easy to match based on JenW's help on the forum. I can wear either olive or warm gold tinted bases. The foundation blends easy in the jar and is the perfect travel size. It should last me at least 3 weeks. I like that it is so soft on my skin and makes it appear flawless. I did add glow base -personal choice for a little more sparkle. The makeup is more semi-matte in itself. I will probably switch to the medium coverage for those need to look made up days... Otherwise, very pleased. Cannot wait to order the full size kit!

This is a great intro kit! I ended up using buttery gold and ivory and it wasn't yellow enough so I added some of the yellow color booster and that worked well. It's a good match for AL 2Y if anyone is looking for that.

This is a decent size to get you familiarized with mixing these foundations. This is my first time custom matching my skin to a mineral foundation, so it took me a while. And let it be known, I'm picky. What I found worked well for me was to take the scoop and lay a bit of my old mineral foundation on a clean, white piece of printer paper first. I left some in a small pile and also smeared some against it to see the undertones more accurately.
I then started mixing. Had no idea where to start, so began by mixing some Deep Ebony with the Ivory base. Laid a bit next to my original mineral foundation on the sheet of paper. Not the right shade. And it went on. For an hour haha By the time I was done, I had mixed in quite a few of the darks in: Deep Ebony, Ebony, Olive, Warm Gold, and then Peach to tint a bit. Still wasn't what I wanted. So I mixed in some Zinc Sheer Powder from the sample I ordered, some plain mica I have from another company, some bisque concealer - also another brand - and even threw in some of the Splendid Perfecting Glow. GAWWWDDDDD!! What a nightmare LOL
I wouldn't recommend this, as I'm going to have a hell of a time recreating this, although I wrote it all down. I hope I'll get to the point where I can just use the Silk Naturals products to get the shade I need for my skin tone. Otherwise, I'm going to have to keep buying the other brands as well to mix what I want. Kind of ridiculous and completely defeating the purpose of buying this, as I was looking for a replacement of the mineral foundation I originally bought :-)
The product itself feels nice and is non irritating. Doesn't feel heavy at all. I actually fell asleep some time after applying, had a nap. When I woke up 4 hours later, it was still fine, all in place, and not overly oily as I had dusted it with sericite and silica powder. I did notice, however, that before I laid the sericite and silica over top, my oilies started breaking through pretty fast. That disappointed me, as I'm finding mineral makeup in general shows oiliness far faster than my liquid foundation. Was hoping this one would be a bit different. But other than that, so far so good. I wasn't thinking straight and ordered the deluxe sample kit after this one, hahaha, so I'll get another chance to perfect my technique. After that, I'll just start buying the larger size of the medium and heavy coverage ivory base. This does cover, but I had to apply it in a couple of layers to get it to where I wanted it. I'd prefer to be able to do a once over.
Anyways, giving it 4 stars simply because I think more detailed instructions with these samples kits would be helpful. I found the ones included to be extremely basic and the bare minimum of info. They didn't help me much. Hence the drawn out science experiment I went through :-)
Yes, I DO write long reviews, sorry :-) Mostly because I find longer ones more helpful for myself, so would like to share more details with those who haven't bought the products yet.

My skin toneReview by Amy L.
My skin tone varies greatly throughout the year. I have yellowish undertones, and it has always been SO hard to match my skin without the orangey, pinky mask look! I have tried several other MMUs, still not quite right. Plus they were itchy and frosty looking.
Karen, what a genius idea to let US mix and match to get our perfect color! After trouble with my first few batches with the yellows, I asked the forum for help, with an attached picture. Jen suggested Olive as my undertone. I would never have guessed that, but it's perfect. Now, I can adjust my color as needed without starting the whole search for a match again! I also love that it has no crazy bad chemicals in the ingredients.
I can't say enough good things about this product! THANK YOU!

Hallelujah, I haveReview by Mary C.
Hallelujah, I have a match!! After trying Bare Escentuals (every mix they recommended) and some other major brands without success, I finally have a foundation that precisely matches the rest of me. I love that you can choose the coverage and even mix them to get the right one (I have acne scars to cover, but then other areas of my skin are perfect) so I mixed two batches of the same color in different weights to use as a concealer. FABULOUS! Don't waste your time or money elsewhere - this is the way to go. So easy, quick, and PERFECT.
